Julia Kay performed yesterday at a fashion show held at the Mayfield in Chicago. Julia sang four of her new songs including “Reaching to the Moon;” a tune that is currently a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. After her performance, Julia received a standing ovation from the over 300 people in attendance.

Because of her dynamite performance, a woman, lets just call her Mrs. X,  came up to Julia after the show and said that she just had to be a part of her upcoming big event. The details about this gig are top secret–they are truly out of this world. Seriously, the who, what, where, when, and why of Julia’s next gig are going to blow your mind…straight into another world! Undoubtedly, the coolest thing I have ever been associated with musically in my life.

So, it is about 40 degrees outside today in Austin. Definitely some bone chilling moments… But, the panel discussions today were great. I am looking over all my notes and I am going to post a recap of all the great talks that I attended–great insight from the movers and shakers in the industry. For example, I was lucky enough to sit on and listen to the attorney responsible for bringing the sensation that is “Owl City” to the masses.

Stay warm…and I’ll post updates tonight and tomorrow. The music was everywhere, but I found an invaluable resource in the sound of smart people talking about how it all works behind the scenes. Overall, it was a very informative SXSW.

Everything is so hip down here in Austin at South by Southwest…

I mean there are techno millionaires, movie stars, rock gods, and all the hip lingo that goes along…

But, now it’s official:

South by Southwest will be shortened to South-by!

I’m just kidding, but is there anything that hipsters can’t put their cool slang spin on…

Use it in a phrase–Male hipsters:

“Hey, man. Are you going to check out Alphabeat at South-by?”

Answer:

“Not if you come with that lingo…”

Use it in a phrase–Female hipsters:

“I’ve totally got to get my hair done for South-by. Something real piecy and streaked out with a pair of vintage boots from that cool sidewalk boutique down there on SoCo (another two syllable hipsterism)…”
