3Beats likes artists. We like artists so much that we are rolling out a new program to provide excellent music from some of the best up-and-coming artists out there for your independent film, amateur  video, or multi-media application (games, iPhone apps, etc…).

The nuts and bolts: we provide a license to use the music any way that you choose as long as it is not for a commercial purpose. In consideration for the use of the music, all we want is credit–all kinds of credit: by lines in film and  links galore on your site to the artists here. Upon commercialization, the license terminates and a new license is needed. We also understand that Google Adsense has changed the game a bit as well–because that could be categorized as revenue generating. But, we are putting together a comprehensive program that will cover these spots.

You know how it goes. So, you’ve made a cool video. Then, you posted it to YouTube only to later find out that the sound has been muted from your masterpiece because of a Copyright claim. It is easy to get mad at the Artist and their record label for sending out those aggressive Lawyer’s to stop your masterpiece. But, can you really blame them?

The big artists that everyone loves were probably starving artists in the beginning. Now, they just want to protect their hard work and pay their rent. Regardless of how you feel about Copyright law, it exists and authors use it to make sure their work is used on their terms.

But, imagine that you have a great indie film that you have produced. You are just taking it to festival and trying to drum up as much support for it online as you can. You can use some of the great tracks in our library without having to pay exorbitant licensing fees on the front. Then, after Robert Redford says that your film blew his mind at Sundance, and the investors and distributors come running, we can work out a new license that allows everyone to move forward happy about the commercialization process…
