In the old-time recording days, there was generally a 3 pass limit for any part during a session that was recorded live to 2 track tape. The studio figured that if you couldn’t get it right in 3 takes, then either the track was not vibing or the musicians were not vibing.

So, we decided to keep it lean–just a piano, a cello, and Julia. And, what a great message…
