3Beats likes artists. We like artists so much that we are rolling out a pioneering new program to provide excellent music from some of the best up-and-coming artists out there for your independent film, amateur video, or multi-media application (games, iPhone apps, etc…).
The nuts and bolts: we provide a license to use the music any way that you choose as long as it is not for a commercial purpose. In consideration for the use of the music, all we want is credit–all kinds of credit: by lines in film and links galore on your site to the artists here. Upon commercialization, the license terminates and a new license is needed. Simply, when you go to market for money so do we.
You know how it goes. So, you’ve made a cool video. Then, you posted it to YOUTUBE only to later find out that the sound has been cut from your masterpiece because of a Copyright claim. It is easy to get mad at the Artist and their record label for sending out those aggressive Lawyer’s to stop your masterpiece. But, can you really blame them?
The big Artists that everyone loves now were probably starving artists in the beginning. So, now they just want to protect their hard work and pay their rent. Regardless of how you feel about Copyright law, it exists and authors use it.
But, imagine that you have a great indie film that you have produced. You are just taking it to festival and trying to drum up as much support for it online as you can. So, you use some of the great tracks in our library without having to pay exorbitant synch licensing fees on the front-side. Then, after Robert Redford says that your film blew his mind at Sundance, and the investors and distributors come running, the old license for non-commercial purposes terminates. And, we can work out a new license that allows everyone to move forward happy about the commercialization process…
So, if you are interested in using our tracks for non-commercial purposes, consideration in kind, or other cool ways that we have not thought of yet, just leave a message. Tell us: your name, how to reach you, what track or tracks that you like, and all about your cool project.
The Internet is getting smaller–and it is easier to find unauthorized uses with search engines. The take home–there is no need for hassles when there are better ways to do things…
Cheers,
