New Tracks From Julia Kay, Lauren Frost and Kirk Medland

Yup, I have been out for a bit and really busy.

But, in the immortal words of Stevie Wonder:

Like a fool I went and stayed too long
Now I’m wondering if your love’s still strong
Ooh, baby, here I am, signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours!

So, let’s just pick up where we left off and get down to it. Julia Kay, Lauren Frost and Kirk Medland all have new music which I’ll be sharing in the next few days.

Kirk is also launching his new website in the next week and getting ready to release an EP of 3 tracks. They are being mastered (smashed) to analog tape in Chicago at Horse-Drawn Productions and they will rock; yes, they will rock!

Also, the studio got a new ukelele–which is cool.

And, I’m ready to get into some posts. I had to recharge the battery a bit and take a birds-eye look at things. It looks good. It looks good.

Arrested Development–on to Season Two…

Big Day–Arrested Development Weekend Marathon Celebration!

So, it was a pretty big day around here–more details to follow. Anyway, the celebration has begun and I can not think of any better way to do it than watching seasons 1-3 of Arrested Development back-to-back.

My Arrested Development DVD rock block viewing session obsession began in Chicago in 2007. I am confident that there are few issues in life that have not been addressed in AD. From the best law school hypothetical to middle east politics, AD rocked them all. It was the best–I frequently see jocks of AD on 30 Rock and other funny (but not as funny as AD) shows. It is a massive tome of overlapping, twisting story lines that are weaved together into a quilt of comedy that I plan to snuggle under for the next 48 hours.

It re-launched Jason Bateman’s career, put Michael Cera on the map…I could go on and on about the cast.

I think I will post a few of my favorite AD lines this weekend…

…and, now some rest and relaxation “after the sweet sweat of a hard days work.”

Julia Kay will be out to record some new tracks in about a week. Then, she is off to LA for pilot season. I have been doing pre-production on new songs. Expect to hear some new music from Julia in the beginning of February!

Kirk Medland Finishes Three New Tracks

Kirk Medland was in Austin over the holidays to record three new tracks. We are releasing an A-side and a B-side of two of the new tracks: “Girls From the Underground” and “Lipstick Kiss.” These tracks are just cool. We really brought back some of the rock with these two.

“Lipstick Kiss” features Dr. Robert Coates or as we call him Doctor RC on lead guitar. Final mixes should be done in a week or so. Now if someone would just send me a Dangerous Music D-box–that would be rad…

Lauren Frost’s “August” in Illinois Entertainer Magazine

Lauren Frost just sent me a text message to check out the new article in the Illinois Entertainer Magazine. First, thanks to Illinois Entertainer and Lauren Frost for the OAKDALE3B shout-out. Yup, the track was produced out of the original Oakdale studio in Chicago. It was a mystical place with a magic table and a microphone and it entertained some of the best talent in Chicago.

A couple of those talented people happened to be Lauren Frost (Disney’s Even Stevens, Barbra Streisand “Timeless Tour”) and Ashton Likes (Singer/Songwriter…and one bad cajon player). Lauren and Ashton co-wrote the track for our friend and hold-down-the-bottom bass player Tom Gallagher for his wedding.

The song was just cool out of the gate. We kept it simple and worked off the Chanel principle–dress it up and take one thing off before you go. The fashion was in the vocal arrangement. The take one thing off was MIDI.

Lauren and Ashton are now living in Hollywood and playing all over town–in fact they are playing tomorrow night: 9/4 – White Harte Pub – 830-1030pm – Woodland Hills, CA.

Lauren has also been collaborating with her multi-talented friend Margo Harshman. Margo sings and plays guitar–so, they are ready to emote as a duo. I’ve been getting some of the roughs sent over from their work together and the tunes are awesome.

They have an upcoming performance as well–their first performance live–so check it out: 9/10 – Lauren Frost with Margo Harshman – Enid & Edgar Vintage – 10pm

I can’t keep up with all of the stuff Julia is doing these days. I really try to be a good blog poster but she has been busy lately. So, the legendary Dale Kawashima and his super crew of talented folks over at Singer Universe have chosen Julia’s “Glass Box” as one of the top 5 vocal performances for July of 2010. Really, check out Dale’s bio–he managed Michael Jackson’s catalog at ATV Publishing. That’s just rad.

Here is a little excerpt, “It was Kawashima’s success as an independent publisher which led to receiving an offer from Michael Jackson to become President of ATV Music.
